Segregation and racism affected everyone in the Old Confederacy--the Southern States that continued to oppress Negroes with separate bathrooms, seats in the back of the bus, and other indignities. But everyone was corrupted by this system, even the Whites. Harper Lee's dad was no different. He was part of the White World of the South.
