    Truman Capote
Capote rose above a childhood troubled by divorce, a long absence from his mother and multiple migrations. He discovered his calling by the age of eleven, and for the rest of his childhood he honed his writing ability. Capote began his professional career writing short stories. The critical success of one story, "Miriam" (1945), attracted the attention of Random House publisher Bennett Cerf, resulting in a contract to write Other Voices, Other Rooms (1948). Capote earned the most fame with In Cold Blood (1965).

Born Truman Streckfus Persons in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of 17-year-old Lillie Mae Faulk and salesman Archulus Persons.[2] His parents divorced when he was four, and he was sent to Monroeville, Alabama, where, for the following four to five years, he was raised by his mother's relatives. He formed a fast bond with his mother's distant relative, Nanny Rumbley Faulk, whom Truman called "Sook". "Her face is remarkable—not unlike Lincoln's, craggy like that, and tinted by sun and wind," is how Capote described Sook in "A Christmas Memory". In Monroeville, he was a neighbor and friend of author Harper Lee, who wrote the 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird, with the character Dill being based on Capote.[

  14. Hello Mr. Heverly. This is my post about the warm up, class work, or homework thingy. In the book of "To Kill a Mockingbird", the character Dill is based on a real man named Truman Capote. Truman was interesting by his personality, which was bold and creative. He also had a sad backstory of his family. As a child, Truman was raised not by his parents, but by his family relatives. The character Dill of "To Kill a Mockingbird" is exactly like Truman. Truman Capote is lifelong friends with Harper Lee, the author of "To Kill Mockingbird". Lee lived in Alabama with her father who was a lawer and her brother. Harper and Truman always played as children. So it's like it's a story of Lee's childhood, where Lee is portrayed as Scout and Truman is portrayed as Dill. AMAZING!!!!!!

  16. Truman Capote was an American author, who has at least twenty films and screenplays devoted to his writings. As a child he was rased by his mother's relative, very similar to Dill, in To Kill a Mockingbird. Being raised in Monroeville, Alabama, he became friends with Harper Lee, and the two remained friends throughout their lives. He was interesting, because he taught himself to read before he had begun school, and would write for three hours everyday after school. When he was seventeen, he became employed to the New Yorker magazine, which is where he would work for two years. Because he based several of his characters on Harper Lee, she based the character Dill on him.

The character of Dill was modeled on Lee's childhood friend, Truman Capote, known then as Truman Persons. Just as Dill lived next door to Scout during the summer, Capote lived next door to Lee with his aunts while his mother visited New York City. Like Dill, Capote had an impressive imagination and a gift for fascinating stories. Both Lee and Capote were atypical children: both loved to read. Lee was a scrappy tomboy who was quick to fight, but Capote was ridiculed for his advanced vocabulary and lisp. She and Capote made up and acted out stories they wrote on an old Underwood typewriter Lee's father gave them. They became good friends when both felt alienated from their peers; Capote called the two of them "apart people.” In 1960, Capote and Lee traveled to Kansas together to investigate the multiple murders that were the basis for Capote's nonfiction novel In Cold Blood.
